Over £1m of grants to help fund local transport schemes in the county has been secured by Powys County Council.
The significant funding, announced by the Welsh Government last week (Wednesday, April 18), has been allocated through the Local Transport Network Fund (£450,000); Safe Routes in Communities (£322,229), Local Transport Fund (£175,000) and Road Safety Grant (£101,850) with funding totalling £1,049,079.
The Local Transport Network Fund will be used to improve public transport interchange facilities in Llandrindod Wells, Machynlleth and Welshpool.
The Safe Routes in Communities funding will be used to create an off-road route to Knighton Primary School linking with leisure facilities, town and commercial properties and residential estates which will improve road safety and encourage walking and cycling in the local community.
The Local Transport Fund will allow the council to design active travel schemes for Crickhowell and Llangattock, Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Presteigne and Welshpool.
The Road Safety Grant will allow the council to continue to provide its road safety initiatives to make the roads in Powys safer for all users.
