amber energy, the energy management consultancy based in Cardiff, Wales, is celebrating its first decade of trading. The business was launched in August 2009 by founder and CEO, Nick Proctor.

Nick launched amber energy from his dad’s spare room, armed with little more than a second-hand laptop and an unflinching can-do attitude. A decade on, the 75-strong company is headquartered in the prestigious One Central Square building in the centre of Cardiff, with a satellite office in St James Square, London.

Over 80% of amber’s clients are outside of Wales, making amber energy a net exporter of services and a real local success story. They estimate to have saved clients hundreds of millions of pounds from their energy bills over the last decade.

Nick Proctor, founder and CEO of amber energy, said:

“amber energy has been on an incredible journey over the last ten years. What started with a single-minded desire to bring never-before-seen levels of transparency to business energy procurement, has transformed into a business that is making a real and ongoing difference to people’s lives.

“Where we are today is all down to the commitment of our incredible team, and I’m grateful to every single person who has helped us on our journey. The team works hard each day to apply the amber energy way of thinking to new challenges, which has seen us launch AI (artificial intelligence) powered energy brokering for micro and small businesses, student- and landlord-focused services, and philanthropic projects such as Power2Africa, that help bring clean, reliable energy to those who need it most.

“With a strong base business, a clear direction, and an ambitious team, I’m excited about what we can achieve over the next decade. I’m looking forward to seeing amber energy replicate its no-nonsense approach to large-scale energy procurement internationally, while continuing to invest in and encourage intrapreneurship to identify the new ways that we can use our skills in technology and data analytics to make energy work better for businesses, communities and households.”
