Almost half of Welsh parents say they want more support and information to help their children spend more time with books, according to new research from BookTrust Cymru, a charity that has spent 25 years embedding bilingual shared reading programmes for babies and young children in Wales. The survey of parents and carers of children aged 0 to 8 across Wales found strong enthusiasm for reading at home. A new Dairy Sheep Cluster has been launched at the Royal Welsh Show, bringing together farmers, processors, retailers, academia and industry stakeholders to support the development of the Welsh sheep milk sector. The RSPCA is appealing for information after a member of the public witnessed a gull being attacked in Cwmbran. The bird was later taken to a local vets after the alleged incident at Porthmawr Road in the South East Wales town (see image). Sadly it was confirmed the sea bird had suffered two broken wings and the vet decided the kindest course of action was to put the bird to sleep. Families across Wales can look forward to a warm and largely dry start to the school summer holidays, with the Met Office forecasting plenty of sunshine and temperatures climbing into the mid 20s this week. Bridgend County Borough Council has updated members of the Communities, Environment and Housing Committee on its efforts to regenerate Bridgend town centre.
