COMMUNITIES across Swansea are getting hundreds of new waste bins to encourage residents and visitors to play their part in keeping the city clean and tidy. Over the past six months more than 400 new bins have been installed to replace existing bins in parks, streets and at beaches as part of a range of measures that will improve bin provision and help deal with litter and dog waste. The opening of a refurbished children’s play park in Tonna, Neath, has been welcomed by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Wellbeing, Cllr Jeremy Hurley. The Hunters Ridge Play Area renewal project was funded largely from a £187,956 “Community Contribution” intended for open space and play facilities from the Barratt Homes development at nearby Cwm Celyn in Tonna. A sensational evening of live jazz, classical, rock, and film score music was enjoyed by many people in the beautiful grounds of Scolton Manor in ‘Music at the Manor’. There are still funds available to support fishing businesses but the deadline to apply is the end of this month. Grant aid is available under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund programme 2014-2020 to contribute to the promotion of competitive, environmentally sustainable, economically viable and socially responsible. County Councillor Meirion Howells was elected at the council’s annual general meeting on May 18th following nomination by Councillor Ian Chandler, which was seconded by Council Leader Mary Ann Brocklesby.
