Bangor University is set to hold its first Community Day this autumn, on Saturday 14 October between 11am and 3pm. The university will open its doors to the local community, giving everyone the chance to step inside the impressive Main Arts building and the different levels of Pontio to discover more about what goes on inside the ‘College on the hill’, as it is called locally. Cardiff jewellery thief jailed for five years after stealing up to £50000 worth of jewellery. Remiah Fyffe-Gayle, 29, from London, travelled to Cardiff on 22 April and entered the Pravins store in St David’s Centre. Staff became suspicious after he asked to look at a number of diamond rings, which he claimed were for an upcoming engagement. He was shown three rings, which he grabbed suddenly and made for the exit. Work is starting this month on five great new play areas at the Phoenix Centre in Townhill as well as in Plasmarl, Gendros, Pontlliw and Clydach. The biggest Poundland store in Wales is opening its doors this weekend. The impressive store – around 20,000 sq ft – will open at Valegate Retail Park, Copthorne Way, Cardiff CF5 6EH at 8am this Saturday 9 September 2023. A £1.2MILLION grant programme will help future-proof community organisations in Denbighshire. The new Denbighshire Key Fund will provide revenue and capital support to third sector groups in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Brexit, and other economic challenges including the national cost-of-living and energy crises. Led by Ruthin-based Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC), the scheme is financed via the UK Government’s Levelling-Up Fund. A father and son who shared suicidal thoughts have teamed up to launch helpu.org.uk – an initiative aimed at addressing the stark statics that men are nearly four times as likely as women to die from suicide in Wales, where male suicide rates continue to be higher than England’s.
