A programme to help support Welsh-speaking teachers to become secondary school teachers in Wales is now open for applications until 22 February 2026. The ‘Cynllun Pontio’ programme supports Welsh speakers who are currently teaching in primary schools in Wales, who teach outside Wales or teachers who have been out of the profession for five years or more who wish to rejoin the profession. Families of all two-year-olds in Swansea can now benefit from free childcare through the Welsh Government’s Flying Start scheme. The local authority becomes the second in Wales after Merthyr Tydfil to reach this key milestone. A man from Swansea has been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of offences, including sexual assault. 34-year-old Nathan Bantick, from Mount Pleasant, also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an incident which took a place on The Kingsway in the city centre on November 26 last year. The sexual assault charge pertained to sexual touching of a woman without her consent. Bantick has been sentenced to twelve months in prison. A man has been arrested after reports of someone carrying a bladed article at Bangor University. North Wales Police were called shortly before 2.30pm on Friday 6 February following concerns about a man on the university grounds. Officers attended the scene and a 20 year old local man was arrested on suspicion of public order offences. District Inspector Jamie Owens said enquiries were continuing and that police were working closely with the university. S4C has confirmed that Wales’ U20 Six Nations matches will be streamed live on YouTube for the first time, alongside the channel’s usual television and digital coverage on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer. The move is an addition to S4C’s newly agreed four-year deal with Six Nations Rugby.
