Organisers are promising a fun family day out as Mid Wales Autumn Fayre returns to the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells bigger and better on October 29 and 30. Nearly 80 artisan food and drink producers and more than 40 local arts and crafts exhibitors will be selling their products at the weekend event which will have 10 live demonstrations from talented chefs and butchers. Arranged by the Culinary Association of Wales, the live cookery demonstrations will celebrate International Chefs Day and support Welsh chefs. Transport charity Sustrans has launched a new schools resource, developed in line with the new Welsh curriculum, to promote awareness of walking, wheeling, and cycling as modes of travel among learners across Wales. Last academic year, Sustrans’ work with students across Wales helped to increase the level of walking, wheeling, and cycling by 24.6% and decreased car use by 29.9% on the school run. Denbighshire Leisure will be lighting up buildings this October in support of Breast Cancer Now’s Wear it Pink Day. Ruthin Craft Centre, Rhyl Sky Tower, Rhyl Pavilion Theatre, 1891 Restaurant and Bar and the Events Arena waterfall will all be illuminated in pink on October 21st to support this annual event. Science Minister Nusrat Ghani has unveiled a new £15 million fund for UK businesses to revolutionise satellite communications technology. The competition, running until next spring, is open to organisations developing ambitious technologies across the satellite communications ecosystem. It will prioritise customer needs, support sustainable growth and catalyse further investment into the UK space sector, which already employs 47,000 people. A WREXHAM builder is preparing to run a gruelling 250km over five days to raise money for a charity that supports people with their mental health. Shane Crawford, 24, a site manager for Anwyl Homes, will set off on the ‘ultra-marathon’ on November 2 in a group of 25 runners. The challenge involves running an average of 50km a day (31 miles) on planned routes around Bath, Somerset, returning to their base each evening to camp overnight. Over £3.1m – that’s how much has been paid to families across Swansea in recent weeks as part of a scheme to help people heat their homes this winter. Funded by the Welsh Government and run locally by Swansea Council, the fuel support scheme means eligible households are entitled to claim a £200 payment. Since the scheme first went live towards the end of September, the council has processed thousands of applications while also answering hundreds of daily queries by email and phone. Neath Port Talbot councillors have approved a Rapid Rehousing Plan which is part of a Wales-wide initiative aimed at making any homelessness “rare, brief and unrepeated”. Welsh Government published its Ending Homelessness in Wales strategy in 2021. It came after the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a crisis in homelessness and it was felt a radical change and a shift towards early preventative actions and a rapid rehousing model was needed in Wales.
