First Minister Mark Drakeford has announced the Welsh Government will be funding up to 140 medical student placements each year at the new north Wales medical school. The new medical school in north Wales will train hundreds of medical students and ensure training opportunities and the provision of qualified doctors are spread across Wales. Advanced Paramedics Practitioners (APP) across Wales are helping to treat more people in the community and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Data from the Welsh Ambulance Service shows that up to 70% fewer people needed to be taken to emergency departments when responded to by an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, compared to traditional crews. The average cost of car insurance in Wales has grown by 18% in 12 months. That means drivers in the region are now paying on average £86 more than they did this time last year, new data reveals.  The increase means that drivers in Wales are now paying £486 for their car insurance, on average. A fundraising appeal has been launched by an RSPCA branch to help pay for an operation to help a young French bulldog breathe better. Bertie, who came into the care of RSPCA Herefordshire Branch on 6 December last year,  is suffering from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (or BOAS) which causes him to have difficulties breathing.
