The Welsh Government is providing an additional £30.9 million to local authorities to deliver regeneration projects that will transform town centres across Wales. The investment is being directed to local authorities across the country — from coastal towns to valley communities — with projects spanning creative industries, leisure, transport, and heritage. Since its launch in 2020, the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme has awarded more than £484 million in grant and loan funding to support regeneration across Wales – and this extra funding brings the total investment for 2025/26 to an impressive £56.3 million. Drivers are being warned of a full weekend closure on the M48 as essential bridge maintenance works get under way. Traffic Wales has confirmed that the M48 eastbound between Junction 2 at Newhouse Roundabout and Junction 1 at Aust will be closed overnight from Friday, February 27 through to Sunday, March 2. The closure will be in place each night between 8pm and 6am, with the full weekend shutdown allowing engineers to carry out bridge maintenance works safely. South Wales Police has confirmed that Live Facial Recognition technology will be deployed proactively in Cardiff today, Friday, February 27. The force says the move is aimed at locating suspects, wanted individuals and high risk missing people as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent and detect crime.
