Mavericks Wales has won a contract to host a series of classic car and motorbike auctions. The Holywell based community-owned company, which started out five years ago as a specialist motorcycle repair and restoration business, is expanding its events and hospitality service. Principality Building Society has awarded £117,000 between 24 charities who give support to young people in some of the most vulnerable and financially deprived communities across Wales. The largest building society in Wales received almost 100 applications and awarded grants of up to £5,000 each for projects for its Future Generations Fund to encourage young people to prepare skills for their future world of work, personal finances, finding employment, and living more sustainable lives. A new report from Aston University and NatWest, which was sponsored by the Welsh Government has found the Covid pandemic created new opportunities for Welsh entrepreneurs in 2021. The latest Global Entrepreneurship Team (GEM) report, based on a sample of just over 10,000 individuals, found that almost one in three working age individuals were either engaged in entrepreneurial activity or intended to start a business within the next three years. Famed chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White was in Swansea earlier in the week visiting his Steakhouse restaurant which is located in the SA1 area of the city. A Mid Wales museum, which is home to a collection of around 5,000 model cars, is to feature on the popular BBC One TV antiques series Bargain Hunt. Show presenter Charlie Ross, an antiques expert and auctioneer, paid a visit with the film crew to the Cloverlands Model Car Museum at its new home in Llanfair Caereinion recently. A team of Gwynedd creamery workers are going up in the world to raise money for a pair of charities that are close to their hearts. Staff from South Caernarfon Creameries will tackle the ascent of Snowdon on Saturday, October 1, in aid of the Robin Llyr Evans Memorial Trust, Cofio Robin, and The DPJ Foundation, both with strong associations across Wales, particular the North and West. Bus passengers and those heading to the capital for the Cardiff Half Marathon on 2nd October are being urged by Cardiff Bus to plan their journeys in accordance with their travel advice. The bus operator is alerting passengers to diversions and bus stop changes throughout the day from the first bus until 15:15, although each route will be affected at different times. Route 6 (baycar) will not operate until 14:00 due to road closure across the majority of its route. The majority of Transport for Wales (TfW) services across the Wales and Borders network will be suspended on two days in October due to the on-going national industrial action. The National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) has announced two days of strike action will take place on Saturday 1 and Saturday 8 October, across Network Rail and 15 train operators. ASLEF has also announced strike action on Saturday 1 and Wednesday 5 October across 12 train operators, while TSSA have announced strike action on 1 October at Network Rail and 11 train operators. Talyllyn Railway has been awarded a prestigious ‘Red Wheel’ plaque from the National Transport Trust. The trust created the Red Wheel Scheme to recognise the most significant sites of historical importance to transport heritage in the United Kingdom. The Transport Heritage programme commemorates Britain’s rich and globally important legacy in the development of transport. The most significant of these locations are marked by erecting a Red Wheel plaque on the site. There are now more than 120 Red Wheels around the UK.
