Transport for Wales (TfW) customers are being encouraged to check their journey details as an increase in train services comes into effect in December 2021. From Sunday 12 December, a new rail timetable will be in place across the TfW Wales and Borders network. It will also see the re-introduction of direct services between Crosskeys and Newport for the first time in almost 60 years. While the times of many services will be unaffected, customers should still ensure they double check their departure, arrival and connection times. Over 100 years after the First World War ended the carnage it wreaked on a North Wales town – and on one street in particular – has been commemorated in a new book. Cheshire based children’s cancer charity, The Joshua Tree, hosted a Ladies Lunch at Delamere Manor, Cuddington on Thursday 25th November. The successful event raised £21,000 thanks to the lady’s huge generosity. TV presenter, Bruce Turner who gave freely of his time to the children’s cancer charity, entertained more the 140 guests to highlight the importance of the charity’s work and telling one family’s story about the bereavement of their son Noah to cancer, aged only four, and the support they still receive from The Joshua Tree. CITB’s annual migration report has revealed that the number of migrant workers in construction continues to fall significantly. This is at a time when the industry is experiencing a sharp rise in the cost of materials, wages, and an increase in demand for workers, Migration in UK Construction 2021 found. A memorial has been unveiled in Abergynolwyn village to mark Llechi Cymru, Slate Landscape of North West Wales, being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bryneglwys Slate Quarry, Abergynolwyn and Talyllyn Railway formed an integral part of the successful bid as the central hub of the slate industry in Southern Snowdonia. Children’s charity Barnardo’s Cymru has announced the opening of a new community office in Caerphilly, which will become the main hub for it’s adoption and fostering services in Wales. For the first time since the formation of the not-for-profit Barnardo’s Cymru Adoption and Fostering Services in 1980, the charity is moving out of Cardiff city centre and will be based at the Welsh ICE Campus, which also offers coworking space and business support for startups and small companies. More first time visitors discovered Mid Wales as a tourist destination this year due to the staycation boom, an annual meeting was told. MWT Cymru, which held the virtual meeting on Thursday last week, urged everyone involved in the Mid Wales tourism and hospitality industry to work together to ensure that these new customers return in 2022.
