Following an extensive feasibility study, which assessed the potential opportunities in international football, the football associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland have agreed to focus on a bid to host UEFA EURO 2028, the third largest sports event in the world. The feasibility study included an analysis of the economic impact, the political football landscape and likely costs of hosting major international tournaments. Parents have spoken about the damaging and disruptive impact physical punishment can have on children as a new law outlawing the practice is due to come into force in less than two months’ time. As one parent said: “I’ve always found you get further with sugar than you do with salt.” The new law – the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Act 2020 – comes into force on 21 March 2022. A charity providing emergency food and support to the people of Flintshire will be able to pay almost the entire year’s rent on its Mold centre after a manufacturer’s donation. Flintshire Foodbank has been handed a timely boost after receiving £2,000 from Synthite, a chemical producer in the town. Synthite was awarded the figure by parent company Tennants Consolidated Ltd to pledge towards the efforts of a local charity. Swansea people are being invited to take part in the testing of their arena at two events taking place later this month. Tickets are now on sale for the events, which will enable the testing of all aspects of the venue ahead of the arena opening in March. This will include evacuations as part of safety testing. Thousands of households across Neath Port Talbot are being urged to apply for their winter fuel support payments without delay after the Welsh Government doubled to £200 the amount it will pay to eligible applicants. In total, Neath Port Talbot Council has already issued Winter Fuel payments totalling nearly £2m. The Welsh Government announced on February 1st that an additional £100 payment would be made automatically to those who had applied and received the initial Winter Fuel Payment of £100.
