Corris Railway Society volunteers are continuing to work on the revival of the Mid Wales narrow gauge line and looking forward to a major winter project. The Mid Wales railway, which has only a few weeks left of the 2021 operating season remaining – apart from a planned weekend of Santa Trains in December – will be working on a new track layout and station platform at Corris. A walk to showcase Denbighshire’s section of a national walking route has taken place to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) held a walk on Prestatyn hillside along Offa’s Dyke Path, led by Rob Dingle, a national trails officer for the path. The Offa’s Dyke Path is a 177 mile walking trail which includes portions of the Dyke King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century. Visitors to Swansea city centre may have recently noticed a new gold-coloured pathway taking shape in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre. Forming part of the £135m Copr Bay phase one district, the pathway will lead from close to the New Look store down to the new bridge over Oystermouth Road that connects the city centre with the Swansea Arena and coastal park development. A new delivery team has been given conditional planning approval to take forward the transformational Afan Valley leisure resort project which could create hundreds of jobs and provide significant social and environmental benefits for communities in the area. At yesterday evening’s (Tuesday 12 October) special meeting of the Council to discuss applying for city status, councillors voted 21-10 against pressing ahead with the bid. Members were told in a chief officers’ report that a three-week survey run on the Council’s website and social media platforms resulted in a combined overall 42.56% (758 votes) of participants in favour and 57.44% (1,023 votes) against. The total number of votes cast was 1,781. Based on the population of Merthyr Tydfil being 59,100, just over 3% (3.01%) took part in the survey. Greenway Primary School in Rumney has hosted a special tree planting ceremony to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique initiative which invites people across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
