Schoolchildren in Pembroke Dock are celebrating after winning a prestigious Credit Unions of Wales award. Pupils at Pembroke Dock Community School received the School Partnership Award after running a successful junior savings scheme which not only teaches children the importance of financial wellbeing, but also develops their literacy and numeracy skills. The school launched their Junior Savers Club with SaveEasy Credit Union in November 2019 and despite the Covid-19 lockdown period now have a growing number of children and staff saving regularly. Primary school children living in communities surrounding the Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Farm will soon have the opportunity to have fun learning all about energy and climate change, following the launch of a local community education initiative. A series of bilingual interactive films have been created as part of a collaboration between the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Interest Company (CIC) and wind farm operator Vattenfall, working with Wales-based community education specialist Ynni Da. The first ever drive-in Powys Business Awards on the Newtown campus of NPTC Group of Colleges was declared a big success as the event was blessed with fine weather last Friday night. A police boss is launching a new campaign to cut crimes against women in Wrexham and make the town a safer place for them. North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin has secured an extra £339,000 in funding to reduce the number of offences involving violence against women and girls by 10 per cent. The new Safer Streets initiative will include improving CCTV coverage, creating safer spaces for woman and girls as well as providing training and education.
