THE Welsh Ambulance Service has extended a thanks to the Armed Forces for its support through the Coronavirus pandemic. More than 200 British Army soldiers assisted the Trust’s Covid-19 effort by driving and decontaminating ambulance vehicles as part of Operation Rescript. Among them were 90 soldiers from 9 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, who were enlisted on Christmas Eve at the height of the second wave of the pandemic. RCT Council has celebrated completion of its 21stCentury Schools investment at Hirwaun Primary School – as contractor Morgan Sindall has now finished external elements of the school grounds to fully-deliver the £10.2m project. Staff and pupils moved into their brand new school building during November 2020, which has provided a modern and stimulating learning environment to replace the school’s old buildings. RCT Council has confirmed its arrangements for parking charges in Aberdare and Pontypridd from June 1 – remaining FREE after 3pm on weekdays, after 10am on Saturdays and all day on Sundays. Parking charges in the two towns have been suspended at key points during the pandemic – aimed at helping the local economy, supporting residents to access essential town centre businesses and recognising the limited public transport availability, at times when COVID-19 cases were increasing. A tradition dating back to medieval times in Newport was continued on 11 May 2021 when Councillor Williams became the 389th recorded Mayor of Newport.
