Cardiff Council’s Cabinet has announced that it does not back a congestion charge as the preferred road-user payment option for the city, supporting instead a Workplace Parking Levy. The announcement follows appraisal of the road-user payment initial business case and public engagement and comes on the day that a Road User Payment Scheme Outline Business Case report is published for Cabinet to consider on Thursday, 16th July. Plans to deliver 60 new council homes in Cathays as part of Cardiff Council’s ambitious Council Housing Development Programme have been unveiled. Proposals to acquire a new housing development on Crwys Road – providing 60 apartments alongside a purpose-built community centre and ground floor retail space – will be considered by Cabinet at its next meeting on Thursday, July 16. Port Talbot and the Afan Valley have been shortlisted for the first ever UK Town of Culture competition. The bid is one of 15 towns from across the UK to be selected for the next stage of the process following 398 bids submitted from across the country. The new UK Town of Culture programme, launched by the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport, sits alongside the more established City of Culture competition. Two men who groomed and exploited a vulnerable teenage girl have been jailed following a South Wales Police investigation. The Cardiff-based duo have been sentenced for crimes against a teenage girl in 2021.
