Natural Resources Wales has issued an update following severe flooding across parts of Wales caused by Storm Claudia, with several communities still facing significant disruption. The organisation said its thoughts are with everyone affected by the flooding and confirmed that four severe flood warnings remain in place. These cover the River Monnow at Watery Lane in Over Monnow, the River Wye at Monmouth defended areas, the River Monnow at Forge Road in Osbaston, and the River Monnow at Skenfrith. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident in Monmouth following severe and widespread flooding across the town and surrounding communities. At 01:30 hours on Saturday 15th November, a major incident was declared by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service due to the flooding as a result of Storm Claudia. Crews are working throughout the area alongside Gwent Police, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS University Trust (WAST), SARA, Mountain Rescue, the Coastguard, and colleagues from neighbouring fire and rescue services who have provided additional support. South Wales Police are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the A470, which has led to the southbound carriageway being closed from the Caerphilly exit slip road. The closure is expected to remain in place for some time and drivers are being asked to avoid the area and find another route if possible. Police have thanked motorists for their patience while the incident is ongoing. Some drivers say they have been able to leave the A470 at the Caerphilly junction, travel across the roundabout and rejoin the road further along, although delays remain likely.
