Bridgend County Borough Council will receive £50,000 from Welsh Government for repairs to the Rest Bay boardwalk in Porthcawl after it was damaged during Storm Dennis last year. RCT Council has given an update on the scheme to rectify river wall damage at Blaen-y-Cwm Road – with a significant length of the structure previously repaired and a contractor for the final works in the process of being appointed. Significant sections of the structure, which supports the road, were damaged by the unprecedented weather of Storm Dennis in February 2020. Damaged sections have been cordoned off and monitored closely, and traffic lights have remained in place with Blaen-y-Cwm Road operating with one lane at this location. More accurate waiting time figures showing the real time it takes from suspicion of cancer through to treatment have been published. This is the first time the Suspected Cancer Pathway (SCP) figures are being reported from a new system which collects patient level data. As the SCP provides more accurate patient waits the old measures of Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) and Non-Urgent Suspected Cancer (NUSC) are being retired. Swansea University is looking for volunteers from South Wales to be part of vital research into how an over-the-counter nasal spray could help protect against Covid-19. A CARDIFF mum who discovered she had breast cancer following a routine mammogram appointment is supporting Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraising campaign, Walk All Over Cancer. Lucia Pavia Mardon was 53 when she attended her third annual breast cancer screening test at Breast Test Wales in Cardiff. The Green Giraffe Day Nursery Ltd is expanding in Cardiff thanks to additional funding from Development Bank of Wales. The popular childcare company which already had two nurseries in the city, has opened an additional two. The RSPCA and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have teamed up to come to the aid of a sheep stuck on cliffs at Blaenllechau in the Rhondda Fach valley. Officers from the animal welfare charity were alerted after the sheep was spotted stranded on the steep cliff edge by concerned onlookers. RSPCA Cymru enlisted the support of the firefighters from the Ebbw Vale and Barry Green Watch rescue teams, who deployed their rope rescue specialists and abseiled down the cliff face amid rescue efforts.
