TRIBUTES have been paid to a Welsh Ambulance Service call handler who has passed away at the age of 28. Louise Thomas was a 999 EMS Call Handler based in Cwmbran, having joined the Trust in August 2019. Louise, from Cefn Hengoed, had a genetic condition and had recently been diagnosed with cancer, for which she was receiving treatment. She passed away at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on 09 April. The first community-owned solar farm in Wales has launched an offer to supply Swansea homes and businesses with clean, green energy produced on the Gower peninsula – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – with all profits being ploughed back into local grassroots community projects. Redrow, the leading UK housebuilder headquartered in north Wales, has secured planning permission from Newport City Council to develop 219 homes on the former University of South Wales campus in Caerleon. A former landfill site on the outskirts of Llangollen has taken on a new lease of life. Denbighshire County Council and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team have worked together with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and European Rural Development Fund, to create a new nature reserve on the former landfill site at Wenffrwd – just outside Llangollen.
