Cardiff Council is investigating how it can work with partners to create a ‘Safer Cardiff’ for both residents and workers travelling into the city centre once the current lockdown restrictions are lifted. Plans for Castle Street in the city centre and a pilot scheme for Wellfield Road, in Roath, have already been announced with a traffic lane cleared on Castle Street for cyclists and pedestrians. Aberystwyth based Agxio has completed a £750,000 equity investment round to support the development of advanced data science and AI solutions in agri-tech and agri-fintech. The £750,000 investment comes from a mix of existing investors and the Development Bank of Wales plus match funding from new professional investors. TWO mothers have set up a special interactive online blog to help parents who need support when their children are thinking of going to university, and how to manage when they leave home. As part of Volunteers’ Week across the UK, we look at the way Discovery continues to help change lives in South Wales and across the globe. Discovery is a registered charity that has been established since 1966 and based at Swansea University. It was initially formed by a group of students with the charity now boasting over 600 volunteers in 30 projects across Swansea. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews have seen a rise in wildfires this weekend as they attend nearly 70 deliberate grass fires from Friday to Sunday. Large fires included Garn Wen in Maesteg, Fox Hill in Rhiwderin, Trealaw area of Tonypandy and Penrhys in Ferndale. The majority of these fires have required the attendance of multiple appliances, use of critical equipment and the movement of resources. This usually includes multiple fire engines, specialist wildfire vehicles and a helicopter at the scene working in partnership with police colleagues, Natural Resources Wales and the local authority. Concerns have been raised over the emergence of new types of scams which try to take advantage of vulnerable households in Wales during the Covid-19 lockdown. Over 2,000 online fraud attempts have been identified and blocked in the past month, according to the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, including fake online shops and websites which attempt to steal user data, and fraudulent adverts. It is estimated that scams cost the UK economy up to £10bn each year with the average victim losing over £3,000. Welsh gin brand, Cygnet, is celebrating with some ‘gin-credible’ news, as it confirms the listing of its premium gin on the drinks menu of the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill restaurant brand. Following a deal with Black and White Hospitality, which owns the franchise rights to eight of the famed chef’s restaurant concepts, the new drinks menu is set to roll out across all Steakhouse venues in the next two months. More than ten million people have signed an online petition demanding justice for George Floyd, making it the fastest-growing and biggest petition in the platform’s history. The petition calls for the police officers involved in George Floyd’s death to be arrested and charged. The four officers involved in Mr Floyd’s death were fired from the police force last week, but only Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Mr Floyd’s neck, has so far been charged.
