Colleagues from across Transport for Wales (TfW) have pedalled their way to success, raising over £1,000 in a static bike challenge supporting Seren Dwt, their 2025 charity of the year. The team collectively cycled more than 220 miles, the equivalent distance from Chester to Cardiff – during events held on 3 June in Cardiff and 5 June in Chester —exceeding their original 198-mile target. The challenge brought out fierce but friendly competition, with colleagues riding solo or in teams, donning superhero costumes, and embracing every opportunity to clock up extra miles. A new initiative is launching this autumn in Cardiff to help young people discover and celebrate the city’s rich local history. As part of a UK-wide pilot, Cardiff has been selected as one of only five areas to host a Local History Hub, a teacher-led project designed to connect schools, historical sites, and community organisations through storytelling and place-based learning. Newport City Council is asking for the public to give their feedback on the priorities in its developing tree strategy which aims to significantly increase the city’s “urban forest”. Councillor Yvonne Forsey, cabinet member for climate change, said: “In 2016, Natural Resources Wales identified Newport as having the greatest tree canopy area of any city in Wales at 18 per cent. “We want to increase this urban forest by 2032 to 25 per cent, more than a quarter of the city. A long-anticipated milestone in Welsh medium education and childcare, was reached earlier this year with the opening of Tŷ Chwarae, a brand-new day nursery in Ebbw Fawr. As the first fully Welsh medium nursery in Blaenau Gwent, its launch marks a proud and progressive step forward—one already generating calls for more such settings across the county. The journey began with the 2017 Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, which revealed a pressing gap in Welsh medium childcare in the region.
