A MUM from Gwynedd is making it her mission to run the Virgin Money London Marathon this April in memory of her 17-year-old daughter who died from a rare form of cancer. Businesses from across Mid Wales have taken the first major step in developing the vision for a Mid Wales Growth Deal. 40 businesses, representative organisations and charitable trusts met in three workshops in early April to start the process. New artwork has been unveiled at Redrow Homes’ St David’s Meadow development in Colwinston after local artist, David Mackie, collaborated with children at the neighbouring St David’s Church in Wales Primary School to produce the masterpiece. The public art, which has taken two years to make, is made up of designs created by the pupils after David visited their school for a series of workshops and incorporated their artistic ideas into the finished article. Powys-based bioresearch company, Agroceutical Products, is playing a role in the fight against Alzheimer’s by harvesting Wales’ national flower. Daffodils contain galantamine – a compound known to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s symptoms. [aoa id=”1″] Established in 2012, Agroceutical Products is owned by former sheep farmer Kevin Stephens. The company grows its daffodils 1,000 feet above sea level in the Black Mountains in Powys, which means they produce more galantamine than daffodils grown anywhere else due to the altitude.
