Jennifer Ladd – a retired Emergency Nurse Practitioner from Cardigan Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU) – has been awarded the British Empire Medal. The medal was presented by Miss Sara Edwards, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed on 30 May 2019. Mrs Ladd was awarded the medal for her dedication to improving patient care and safety in her community. It was also awarded for mentoring students and ensuring the success of the only community nurse-led MIU in the Hywel Dda University Health Board. Mrs Ladd retired in September 2018. Two men arrested in connection with a disturbance outside the Dar Ul-Isra Muslim Educational and Welfare Centre have been charged. Police were called to the mosque in Wyverne Road, Cathays, at 1.23am on Sunday, June 2. Luke Anthony Thomas, 19, from Rumney, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and wounding. Liam John Thomas, 18, from Gabalfa, has been charged with two counts of assault. Both men have been remanded in custody to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

First Minister Mark Drakeford has scrapped plans to build the £1.4bn M4 relief road. The studio at Hospital Radio Glamorgan (RG) has thoughtfully been renamed in memory of a dedicated volunteer. John Wilce from Penarth joined the station based at the University hospital of Wales in Cardiff in 2003 but sadly passed away after a short illness in September last year.
