Swansea’s city centre Kingsway remained open for business as council staff replaced contractor Dawnus. A 21-year-old from Rhondda Cynon Taff has opened a new dog grooming business with the ultimate goal of becoming a Crufts champion ‘Groomer of the Year’. An international mental health legal expert with over a decade of experience championing human rights has been appointed to a leading Cardiff legal firm. A Cardiff-based charity has bagged £1,000 to support the work of a social group for adults with disabilities and mental health conditions through Tesco’s Bags of Help local grant scheme. Student Volunteering Cardiff (SVC) was established in 1970 and operates several volunteering projects supporting disadvantaged adults in the Cardiff area. This includes the Whale of a Time Wednesday project which has benefited directly from the Tesco funding. As we celebrate Global Recycling Day, a survey conducted on behalf of Recycle for Wales has revealed that nearly three quarters (74%) of Welsh adults would be likely to actively support an ambition to recycle more and help Wales reach number one in the World Recycling League. A Cardiff community is appealing for support to realise its dream of creating a new £1.6m community centre for residents. Much of the funding has been secured to build a fantastic new facility on the site of a former bowls pavilion in Grangetown. But organisers remain £250,000 short of their target and are urgently appealing for donations. The rebuilt Grange Pavilion will include three bookable spaces (including a large hall), meeting rooms, a café and an office. Hundreds of dogs and their owners are set to embark on a 5k walk around one of the city’s most popular outdoor spots later this month to raise money for City Hospice (formerly George Thomas Hospice Care). The Wag this Way walk, which will take place at 11am on Sunday 24 March, has been organised by City Hospice. The event is being held to raise money to fund the vital specialist palliative care they provide to patients with life-limiting illnesses across Cardiff.
