Wales and British Lions rugby star George North took a break from his busy Six Nations schedule to congratulate Rhondda-based Police Youth Volunteers this week. The in-form North accepted an invitation to present awards at this year’s High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Youth Community Awards which took place at Pencoed College on Wednesday, 13 March, 2019. Three youth volunteers attended the event on behalf of 15 members who belong to the Rhondda branch. The family of a man found dead following a garage fire in Rhos, Pontardawe, have paid tribute to a loving father and husband. Mark Logan, 31, from Godre’r Graig, was found deceased at the scene on Delffordd shortly after 3am on Sunday, March 10th. In just over a weeks’ time, 11 brave individuals will be flying out to Sweden to take on the challenge of Bobath Wales’ first Scandinavian Snow Trek. Over the course of 5 days the team, led by seasoned professionals from Breaking Trail and Sweden Outdoors Coaching, will trek across 36km of snow, ice and steep climbs exploring the Jamtland Triangle all in aid of Bobath Wales. Pupils from Brynmenyn Primary School, Bridgend, recently visited South Wales Police to experience elements of police training first hand, and to compare how far training has come in the 50 years since the Force was established. Officers offered the year six pupils a range of activities that highlighted what it takes to complete the initial police training programme at South Wales Police, and compared it to elements of policing from 50 years ago. A family-owned poultry farm in Monkswood, Monmouthshire, has increased the size of its business after securing £190,000 in funding from NatWest. A £32m plan to reduce dangerous levels of air pollution, cut congestion, improve road networks, public transport and cycling options in the city centre has been drawn up by Cardiff Council. The authority has revealed the proposals in response to a legal challenge made by Client Earth on the Welsh Government, which legally bound the Council to take action to reduce pollution levels to a legal limit by 2021. The 2018 European Union (Withdrawal) Act must be amended to allow the revocation of Article 50 in order to reflect Parliament’s rejection of a no-deal Brexit , the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) has said. Educational charity Techniquest, based in Cardiff Bay, is challenging amateur photographers to capture what science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) means to them as part of a new project celebrating the talent of the local communities.
