The Vale of Glamorgan Council has led a project to revitalise a popular walking route in Penarth. The alleyways connecting the St Paul’s Avenue flats to Hazel Road and Lavernock Road were in need of improvement after feedback from residents highlighted concerns about litter, safety after dark and the overall appearance of the area. Public transport links in Swansea and neighbouring towns are set to be improved as part of a five-year regional transport plan. Swansea Council is set to endorse a long list of transport-related schemes, specific to Swansea, that could be developed from 2026/27 onwards. The schemes are being proposed after extensive public consultation and will be subject to Welsh Government approval and funding. A once-dull underpass in Haverfordwest has been transformed into a vibrant, eye-catching mural thanks to the creativity and hard work of five young people from the Haverfordwest High VC King’s Trust group, led by Youth Worker Ell Lewis. A former couple who built a shepherd’s hut and log cabin without planning permission have been ordered by a court to pay more than £4,000 between them. Daniel and Megan Davies both pleaded guilty to non-compliance of an enforcement notice after the unlawful development was discovered on land at Seven Acres, Whitland, in August 2023. Councillor Kate Thomas has taken up her new role as the 393rd Mayor of Newport following a ceremony in the Civic Centre. Councillor Thomas, who represents the Stow Hill ward, has chosen two charities to support for her year in office – Little People UK and Book Trust Cymru. She was born was born in Birmingham but has always been proud of her father’s Welsh ancestry and has remained close to his family who live near the Ceredigion coast.
