A man from Swansea has been jailed after being involved in the supply of Class A drugs. 26-year-old Jay Hume, from West Cross, was identified after his phone number was identified in communications with another individual arrested for drug offences in June. Examination of Hume’s mobile phone showed a large number of messages regarding payment for the cocaine that Hume was supplying. He has been sentenced to six years in prison at Swansea Crown Court for being concerned in the supply of cocaine. In recent months, the council’s Green Spaces team have been working with specialist contractors Sutcliffe Play Ltd and Play and Leisure Ltd on the repair and refurbishment of more than 20 children’s play areas across the county borough, with some playgrounds already open and more set to open next week. Newbridge Playing Fields play area upgrades are now complete, following a minor delay due to unexpected complications with the sand area base and surrounding fencing. A final piece of restoration work is set to preserve a Prestatyn slice of history for future generations. Work has been carried out at the Prestatyn Roman Baths to help protect and restore the historical site at Melyd Avenue. The hidden gem was first discovered in the 1930’s during a round of excavations on the site. It was then covered, only to be excavated again in the 1980s, during the construction of the neighbouring housing estate. A new sculpture which symbolises Flat Holm and aims to link people on the mainland with the island as part of an arts project, has been installed on Cardiff Bay Barrage, just south of the Scott Memorial. The four-metre-tall hardwood sculpture of a radio is a significant milestone in the National Lottery Heritage Fund Project, “Flat Holm – A Walk Through Time,” and is part of a collection of new art content conceived and designed by artist Glenn Davidson. Visitors to one of the world’s top 50 beach locations will find queues for toilets are reduced this summer. Gower’s Rhosili beach, which includes the iconic Worm’s Head and welcomes more than 750,000 visitors each year, has undergone a major upgrade to its public toilet block, making it easier for visitors to spend a penny this summer. The second phase of new residential properties have been completed in Johnston. Pembrokeshire County Council is celebrating the full completion of the Old School Lane development, built by WG Griffiths, an important milestone for the Local Authority. Work will soon begin to create 52 car parking spaces at Treorchy Railway Station, with the Council supporting Transport for Wales to create a new Park and Ride facility. Minimal overall disruption is expected during the work. The scheme will begin from Monday, July 22, to build the new facility on unused land off Clos Ystradfechan. The former Rates building in Aberdare is undergoing significant redevelopment to provide new residential and commercial space in the property. It will provide much needed homes and local employment opportunities, contributing to the overall economic regeneration of the town. The former Rates building is of historical importance being a Grade II listed building, built in the early to mid-19th Century. It was acquired by the Aberdare Urban District Council in the mid-1960s and converted for use as Council offices and rates collection.
