Bargoed Town Centre was bursting with energy on Saturday 12th July as families, couples, and friends came together to enjoy the town’s second major event of the year, the Bargoed Summer Music Festival.

Nearly 3,000 visitors were recorded in the town throughout the day, an increase of almost 2,000 more visitors compared to the previous Saturday. This highlights the growing popularity of the event as it beats last year’s attendance figures.

The main highlight of the event for many was the music but the festival also featured a wide range of stalls offering delicious food and drink, unique craft products, and local information, with traders and visitors staying as long as they could to soak up the sun.

This year saw the addition of two new music areas, bringing the total to seven lively zones spread throughout the town, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Another standout feature of the day was the enthusiastic involvement of local businesses. Barnardos, The Square Royale, Emporium Snooker Club, Murrays, and Bourton’s Music Bar, were just a few of the businesses that took full advantage of the opportunity by having an outdoor set up outside their venues to engage with the thousands of attendees.

With its welcoming atmosphere and focus on community, the event successfully introduced many visitors to what Bargoed has to offer, encouraging future visits.

Hear what local businesses, traders and musicians thought of the festival:

Russell Jones, Jr. – “Seeing happy smiling faces is priceless to me. This what music is all about, bringing joy, happiness and loads of dancing.”

Oakdale Silver Band – “Oakdale Silver Band would like to say a big thank you to Caerphilly County Council for inviting us to celebrate their music festival at Bargoed.”

Bargoed Library – “Great day was had by all, and we saw a big increase in footfall.  The sensory spaces were well-used, and people took advantage of our cool space, given the scorching hot weather.  Visitors also joined in with our Summer Reading Challenge too!”

The Darts Dungeon – “We had our opening day on Saturday, and we were incredibly busy.  The footfall through the door was great, with people of all ages, and the feedback we had was absolutely fantastic!”

Emporium Snooker Club (The Snooks) – “It was the busiest day we’ve had in a while, our music space was great, and all the bands were well-supported by spectators. It was great to see people in town and the event has grown since last year”

Judith Voyle, Barnardo’s – “These events are desperately needed here in Bargoed to give shops a boost in trade and encourage people into town.  Thank you to all those who helped organise this event.”

Next on the calendar is the Caerphilly Cheese Festival, taking place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August in Caerphilly Town Centre and at the rear of Caerphilly Castle. It’s set to be another great weekend, so mark your calendars!
