A man who committed robbery offences in Bridgend town centre has been sent to prison after appearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, August 6.

James McKernan, 26, from Bridgend, was sentenced to one year and six months in prison after pleading guilty to robbery on Monday, July 8.

On June 8, 2024, McKernan entered the Greggs store on Adare Street in Bridgend and approached counters where food is displayed and took a number of items and put them in his bag. McKernan then made threats towards staff members that if they try to stop him, he would stab them, before making off from the shop without paying.

Using CCTV officers then tracked McKernan and arrested him at Bridgend train station. He was found not to have any offensive weapons on him but was still in possession of the food he had stolen from the store.
