This year, Caerphilly Council want to celebrate Love Your Parks Week 2021 as parks and green spaces have been a vital lifeline to many of us during the lockdowns over the past 16 months.

Run by Keep Britain Tidy, an award-winning environmental charity, Love Your Parks Week runs from July 23rd to August 21st 2021. Here at CCBC, we want to celebrate the number of award winning green flag parks that we have across the borough.

The Green Flag Award programme is delivered in Wales by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, with support from Welsh Government. Independent green space experts volunteer their time in early autumn to judge applicant sites against eight strict criteria, including biodiversity, cleanliness, environmental management, and community involvement.

In Caerphilly our green spaces that have achieved the international prestigious Green Flag status include Cwmcarn Forest, Morgan Jones Park, Parc Cwm Darren, Waunfawr Park, Ystrad Mynach Park, Penallta House and Brithdir Cemetery.

Visiting our green spaces and country parks couldn’t be easier as we are open all year round and there’s no entry fee. They are great places to visit with woods, meadows, wetlands, breath-taking views, an amphitheatre and unexpected artworks all to discover. There’s even a giant horse! Visit Green Spaces Caerphilly for more information on these.

Cllr. Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Waste, Public Protection & Street Scene, said: “We have some fantastic parks and green spaces in our county, and staff work incredibly hard to ensure that standards are maintained in these award winning spaces and all of our parks.”

He continued: “These parks have been vital to wellbeing and physical activity more so over the last 16 months than ever before. However, our green spaces have been under immense pressure, with our waste team collecting more litter than ever. As we head into summer, Love Parks Week provides a moment for us to send an important message to all our residents; we need to Love, Respect, and Protect our parks throughout the summer of 2021 and beyond. Thank you to all those have played an essential role in keeping these spaces beautiful.”
