Caerphilly residents asked to have say on Showfield skate park plans

Examples of other skateparks

Residents in the Cefn Fforest and Blackwood areas are being asked to give their views on proposals to install a new skate park on the Showfield site.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is carrying out consultation on the proposals as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme, which will see around £260 million invested into tenants’ homes and their local communities.

An initial consultation was carried out during September 2020, a more comprehensive exercise is being carried out over the coming weeks to gauge the opinions of residents.  The Council will be giving residents the opportunity to complete a survey electronically. Those unable to complete the survey online can contact Lynne John, Environmental Officer, on 01443 864002 or by emailing [email protected]

Even if residents have given their views previously, the Council is encouraging people to ensure they complete the survey so that their feedback is included.

Views are being sought on proposals to install a new concrete pour skate park near to the existing playpark and outdoor gym on the Showfield, Blackwood, which would be robust and practically vandal proof, as well as being quieter than a metal alternative.  The designs would be similar to several others being installed, as part of the WHQS programme, in communities throughout the county borough; and would offer young people a safe and accessible, outdoor space to use skateboards, scooters and bikes.
