second cannabis factory has been uncovered and shut down in Cardiff within a week, South Wales Police have confirmed.

Officers attended a property on Ruby Street in Adamsdown on Friday afternoon after receiving information that it was being used to produce cannabis. A man was arrested at the scene, 237 cannabis plants were seized and destroyed, and the property was made safe.

Klejdi Bodlli, 22, of no fixed abode, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court the following day on Saturday, January 10. He entered no plea to a charge of producing a controlled drug and has been remanded in custody ahead of a further court hearing next month.

The discovery follows a similar sized cannabis factory being uncovered less than two miles away on Cathays Terrace on January 3, prompting concerns from police about the ongoing impact of organised drug production in the city.

South Wales Police has warned that cannabis production is far from a victimless crime. Officers say cannabis factories are often linked to serious and organised crime, including people trafficking, and can pose significant risks to local communities.

Police also highlighted the danger such properties can present to neighbouring homes, with illegal electrical modifications creating a serious fire risk.

Residents are being urged to report any concerns to police. Reports can be made online via the South Wales Police website, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, members of the public should always call 999.
