This September, voco St David’s Cardiff is once again uniting colleagues, guests, and the local community for IHG’s global Giving for Good initiative – a month dedicated to positive action, charitable giving, and community spirit.

Throughout the month, the five-star Cardiff Bay hotel will host a series of fundraising events and challenges, with all proceeds supporting local charities and global causes.

To kick things off, colleagues have been challenged to ditch their cars and commute to work more sustainably for the whole month of September. Later in the month, on Saturday 20 September, team members will roll up their sleeves for a charity bake sale, donating their best sweet treats in return for a minimum £2 contribution. All funds from this event will go directly to Cardiff Mind, a local mental health charity.

The hotel will also open its doors to the public on Sunday 21 September with a special Giving for Good Table Sale in the Dylan Thomas Suite. Running from 11am until 3pm, staff will purchase tables to sell pre-loved items, with proceeds supporting Cardiff Dog’s Home. Any unsold items will be donated to other charities close to the team’s heart, including Dogs Trust, Cardiff Mind, and the British Heart Foundation.

Guests and staff will also be encouraged to get active in the hotel’s reception throughout the month, with a treadmill and exercise bike set up for the Miles for Meals challenge. As the distance clocked up reaches milestones, the hotel will donate meals to the local community, while additional donations can be made through an online fundraising page in aid of Action Against Hunger.

Adding to the challenge, Finance Business Partner Stephen Smith and Spa Lead Phil Bailey will be cycling to Gloucester to raise further funds for Action Against Hunger, while Operations Manager Tirion Canavan will embark on a charity hike.

Tirion said: “Giving for Good is such an important part of who we are as a hotel team. It gives us the opportunity to challenge ourselves, support local charities that matter to our colleagues, and bring our guests and community together for good causes. From getting active with Miles for Meals to supporting vital local organisations like Cardiff Mind and Cardiff Dog’s Home, we’re proud to play our part in making a difference.”

Giving for Good month is celebrated across IHG hotels worldwide, empowering teams to contribute to people, communities, and the planet.
