Police have charged a man from Rumney with escaping from lawful custody following an incident at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Officers received a report just after 7pm on Monday 13 October that a prisoner had escaped from prison staff while on an escorted hospital visit.
Daniel Flynn, 24, has been charged with escaping from lawful custody. He also faces charges of robbery and possession of a knife.
Flynn appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on 18 November and has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court next month.
