Are you aged between 11 and 25 and have some creative ideas on how to give a fresh new look to Aberystwyth promenade?

Ceredigion Youth Service and the Ceredigion County Council’s Economy and Regeneration Team have launched a design competition, where the winning designs will be displayed on two large walls facing Aberystwyth seafront. The shelter, which regularly attracts vandalism, will be filled with a large, colourful mural, reflecting the heritage of Aberystwyth, and what the town means to young people.

Ceredigion Youth Service will work with renowned graffiti artist, Lloyd, to create a piece of art which is attractive to both locals and tourists. In addition to the competition, young people will have the opportunity to participate in workshops to help create the art work in the new year. All kinds of designs are welcomed, and a panel will decide on the winning designs in January 2019.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services said:

“It is incredibly important that young people’s views are considered when making decisions within our communities, providing young people with a sense of ownership and empowerment. This is an exciting opportunity where Ceredigion Youth Service will facilitate workshops for young people from the local secondary schools and youth clubs to create a mural along the promenade in Aberystwyth, with the support of a professional artist. Therefore, we are encouraging young people from Aberystwyth and across Ceredigion to share their designs of what they would like to see in this area!”

Ceredigion Youth Service welcomes designs from young people aged 11-25 from across Ceredigion, with particular attention to colour, font and images which represent Aberystwyth. Designs should be accompanied by the name, age and contact number of the creator. Designs or ideas can be submitted to the Youth Service via email at [email protected] or can be submitted via private message on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram @GICeredigionYS. Designs can also be handed to your local Youth Worker at all Ceredigion Secondary Schools or Youth Clubs. Postal address to send the designs; Ysgol Cwrtnewydd, Cwrtnewydd, Llanybydder, Ceredigion, SA40 9YW. The deadline for designs is Monday, 7 January 2019.

For any further information regarding the competition, please contact Lowri Evans on 01545572352.
