Construction company Willmott Dixon has recently made donations which will support many residents in the Caerphilly county borough.

The contractor has been appointed by Caerphilly County Borough Council to deliver a key element of its new house building programme; with sites in Trecenydd and Trethomas currently under development.

Willmott Dixon donated £1,000 to the council’s Christmas foodbank appeal, which saw a total of over £10,500 raised to enable foodbanks throughout the county borough buy the supplies they need.  In addition, Willmott Dixon also donated several ‘Prepare for Work’ packs for participants signed up to the council’s employment support programmes.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care and Housing, said “The council has embarked on an ambitious programme of council house building that will see significant investment made over the coming years.  As a council we’re committed to not only helping to meet housing demand, but also in ensuring the investment being made into new housing is maximised to deliver much wider benefits for local communities.

“I’d like to thank Willmott Dixon for their contribution to our annual foodbank appeal, which will be used to purchase emergency supplies for those experiencing severe financial difficulties.  The Prepare for Work packs will also help remove barriers for our participants, by providing them with essential items to assist in the first steps of their journey into training or employment.”

“We look forward to continue building on our partnership with Willmott Dixon to help meet the increasing demand for affordable housing in the county borough and to leave a lasting legacy as a result of this investment.”

Ian Jones, Director at Willmott Dixon added, “We are committed to supporting and engaging the wider communities where we build.  Working closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council we have been able to identify where we can provide opportunities and support whilst we deliver the new housing schemes.  The Prepare for Work packs that we provided are part of our ethos to make a positive difference to people who live locally, and as the last 12 months have been so difficult for so many people, we were delighted to be able to offer the donation the Council’s Foodbank Appeal.”
