Emergency services are continuing to tackle a major wildfire at Clydach Dingle, near Brynmawr.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that multi-agency teams are working “tirelessly” to bring the blaze under control. The fire, which was first reported on Thursday 28 August, is currently affecting around 150 hectares of land and has a one-kilometre fire front.
The operation is being led by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, with support from police, Welsh Government, local authorities, health agencies, and infrastructure partners.
A spokesperson said:
“The joint response is focused on protecting communities, safeguarding critical infrastructure, and minimising environmental impact. Crews are working around the clock, using specialist equipment and benefiting from good access to water supplies to support suppression efforts.”
At present, there is no immediate risk to life or property. However, residents are being advised to keep doors and windows closed when smoke or the smell of smoke is present, and to reopen them once conditions improve. Anyone concerned about their health is urged to seek medical advice.
The fire has been described as “deep-seated and challenging,” with agencies emphasising their commitment to a coordinated response.
“All partners are sharing updates regularly with local authorities and health partners to keep communities informed. We are grateful for the continued cooperation and understanding of the public,” the fire service added.
Updates will continue to be provided as the situation develops.
