Around 50 manhole covers have been reported stolen from the St Mellons and Trowbridge areas of Cardiff.

South Wales Police said the thefts were reported on Saturday and warned that missing manhole covers pose a serious risk to road users, pedestrians and cyclists. Replacing the covers also comes at a significant cost.

Cardiff Council’s highways department has been made aware of the issue and is working to address the safety concerns.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information that could help identify those responsible.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting reference number 2600024744. Information can be provided via 101 or online through the police website. In an emergency, always call 999.
