    Drivers warned of months of disruption during M4 Coryton bridge works

    Essential maintenance and resurfacing works are due to take place on the M4 Coryton North and South footbridges later this month, with a series of road closures planned to support the project.

    The programme, which runs from 29 September 2025 until 19 January 2026, will see bridge deck refurbishment schemes carried out on both structures.

    The works include:

    • Replacement of the bridge deck waterproofing

    • Resurfacing of the bridge deck

    • Replacement of existing expansion joints

    • Renewal of parapet Densotape

    • Replacement of sealant to the edge beams at joint locations

    • Cleaning of all structural elements

    • Concrete testing

    To allow this work to be completed safely, a number of closures and restrictions will be in place.

    Closures and restrictions

    • M4 J32 westbound on-slip – night-time closures on multiple dates

    • Various lane closures on Coryton gyratory – night-time only

    • 24-hour footway closure

    Coryton Northwest and Southwest footbridges

    • Full closure: 30 September 2025 (20:00) – 17 December 2025 (08:00)

    Coryton North Footbridge (A470 impact)

    • Lane 1 closure southbound between Coryton roundabout (CF14 7EW) and Taffs Well Interchange

    Coryton gyratory (night-time lane closures)

    • 13 October 2025 (20:00) – 20 December 2025 (06:00)

    • 5 January 2026 (20:00) – 16 January 2026 (06:00)

    M4 J32 westbound on-slip (night-time closures)

    • 15–18 October 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    • 31 October – 1 November 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    • 3–5 November 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    • 26–27 November 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    • 5–6 December 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    • 8–12 December 2025 (20:00–06:00)

    Diversions

    During the closures, motorists are advised to follow the signed diversion route via Longwood Drive (CF14 7HY) to the A4054 (CF15), and vice versa.

    Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys while the essential maintenance is carried out.
