Tickets are now on sale for National Theatre Wales and Hijinx Unity Festival’s Mission Control – a brand-new production to be staged in the heart of the Welsh capital, at one of Wales’ greatest landmarks, the Principality Stadium.

Directed by Kully Thiarai, Artistic Director of National Theatre Wales and Ben Pettitt-Wade, Artistic Director of Hijinx Theatre, Mission Control is a brand-new, guided, immersive show like no other. In a world where everyone creates their own truth, who can we trust, and who gets to make the choices about our future? Mission Control will feature an inclusive cast of over 80 performers including Hijinx actors from their five academies throughout Wales.

Kully Thiarai, Artistic Director of National Theatre Wales said “We are delighted to be collaborating with Hijinx Theatre on this unique production set in one of Wales’ best loved landmarks. A venue which has seen extraordinary moments of drama and delight whether during the Rugby or being entertained by world renowned artists like Beyoncé.

Mission Control lets us open the gates to a very different kind of performance, one where we will take audiences on a surprising journey placing them at the heart of the story and the space.

Inspired by the moon landings of 50 years ago the show celebrates and questions the nature of human endeavour and the choices we make. Our capacity for compassion and our desire for power and control.”

Kully added “Mission Control will be the first performance of NTW’s 10th anniversary year. We are dedicated to making theatre matter, and working with over 70 actors and Wales’ leading inclusive theatre company will do just that.”

A short message from Monolith, your favourite Megacorporation:

It’s been one hell of a year. Society is polarized, we are overpopulated, battered by extreme weather and as for democracy – well, it was nice while it lasted. Welcome to 2029.

But wait, there is hope! Look up, see the new planet in our solar system. Humanity has a second chance.

As leaders in, well, everything, Monolith has secured the exclusive rights to colonise the planet. Any day now our shuttles will launch from the Monolith National Crisis Centre.  And you can join us.

Ben Pettitt-Wade, Artistic Director at Hijinx Theatre said “Faced with increasing uncertainty over Brexit and how this would affect the international programme of our Hijinx Unity Festival we decided to do something a little different with the event this year.

“The result is “Mission Control” – our most ambitious production to date, featuring over 70 of our Hijinx performers from all over Wales, at a truly iconic venue, in collaboration with National Theatre Wales.

“After months of detailed planning, we can’t wait to get stuck into rehearsals with our wonderful cast and creative team. We look forward to welcoming audiences to a unique experience, in the Principality Stadium as you will never have seen it before.”

The cast includes Matthew Davison, Ffion Gwyther, Freddie Holcombe, Iwan Jones, Rebecca Killick, Tesni Kujore, Justin Melluish, Matthew Mullins, Rhiannon Oliver, Francois Pandolfo, Adam Redmore and Luciana Trapman.

Mission Control runs from 22 – 24 November 2019 at The Principality Stadium, Cardiff. Tickets range from £14 – £18. To book, call 029 2037 1689 or visit www.nationaltheatrewales.org Age guidance 14+.   BSL and closed caption will be available at all performances.  Audio Description at selected performances.
