RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after a black and white cat was found as a stowaway in the back of a van.
The friendly male cat – who is clearly owned – but has not been microchipped was found on Friday 8 August by the driver of the van after they had visited the Bristol area and Cardiff that day.
He was taken to RSPCA Newport Animal Centre – and enquiries have been made by the charity – but unfortunately the owner of the cat has not been found.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Sian Burton said: “This is quite the mystery. Unfortunately the finder of the cat didn’t leave a contact number so we’ve not been able to contact them further about this, so we really are struggling to find more information about where he came from.
“We really would like to reunite him with his owners, who must be very worried that he has not come home.”
The cat, who has been affectionately named by staff at the Hartridge Road centre as Elio, is doing well at the centre. But as the RSPCA continues to prioritise cruelty and neglect cases – space is always needed for more animals coming into the care of the animal welfare charity by the rescuers.
“If you are able to help us identify this cat and track down his owners, please call our appeal line number on 0300 123 8018, quoting 01600165,” said Sian. “We would love to reunite him with his owners!”
The RSPCA would like to remind people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home.
It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number.
