Plans agreed to transform landlord services at Caerphilly Council

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet has this week (13th December) unanimously approved plans to transform how tenants access its landlord services.

Cabinet members agreed to the permanent closure of housing offices at Lansbury Park, Graig y Rhacca and Gilfach, and a community office in Ty-Sign, Risca.  The relocation of landlord services to the Council’s Penallta House offices was also agreed, which will see staff join the wider Caerphilly Homes housing team to facilitate better partnership working and reduce duplication.

Under the new plans, the landlord service will transition from a traditional office-based model to a community-based delivery model.  This means increased opportunities for face-to-face contact, in tenants’ own homes and community venues.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “We recognise that the previous approach to delivering landlord services in the borough was outdated and created barriers for many tenants.

“All tenants were consulted on these proposals before being considered by Cabinet.  Thank you to everyone who responded to the consultation, which showed that the majority of tenants agree with proposals for staff to work more regularly in community locations and for Caerphilly Homes to offer more home visits.

“This centralised approach will allow us to evolve the service further and enable us to target resources where they are most needed, for the benefit of tenants.  We are also expanding our digital offer, with an online portal launching in early 2024, which will make it easier for tenants to access information and report concerns quickly and conveniently, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
