Officers in Pontprennau, Llanrumney and St Mellons have been given extra powers to prevent gatherings, the illegal use of fireworks and anti-social behaviour over the Bonfire Night period.
The 24-hour dispersal order, granted under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, came into force at 9am today (Wednesday, November 5) and will remain in place until 9am tomorrow.
South Wales Police said the order is a preventative measure following reports of fireworks being set off in residential streets, with some exploding near members of the public and even inside shops.
Under the Section 35 powers, officers can direct anyone causing, or likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to leave the area shown on the police map. The order also allows officers to move on individuals aged between 10 and 16 if necessary.
The areas covered by the order include:
-
St Ederyns Estate, Pontprennau
-
Countisbury Avenue and Eastern Leisure Centre, Llanrumney
-
Tesco, St Mellons
This latest action follows a similar dispersal order announced for Pentrebane, as police continue efforts to keep communities safe during the Bonfire period.
