A brand-new explosive series called BOOM! BANG! is about to land on S4C, packed full of dangerous experiments and incredible scientific facts.

Set your reminders as the BOOM! BANG! gameshow will air every Monday from 3 November on Stwnsh, S4C’s service for children and young people. The programmes will also be available to watch online on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.

The series, which sees two teams from the same school battle against each other in wacky scientific games, is a spin-off of the popular BOOM! series hosted by the Bidder brothers, Aled and Rhys.

But this time, a team of new presenters join Aled at the helm.

Heledd Roberts co-presents with Aled and tries to keep order among the teams of children and during the games in the BOOM! BANG! lab; while Zach Mutyambizi and Dr Peri Vaughan Jones oversee the experiments that are too dangerous to carry out in the studio.

Zach is currently an engineering student at Loughborough University and a familiar face on Stwnsh Sadwrn. Peri, who graduated in physics, is now a patent lawyer and helps people protect and develop their inventions.

The production team have worked closely again with officials from Cardiff University’s Chemistry department on the experiments outside of the studio.

Aled Bidder, originally from Swansea, said, “We’ve opened the laboratory doors to the children of Wales to take part in incredible experiments and wild games – all with a  science theme. Games involve the digestive system, launching rockets, the skeleton, earthquakes, generating electricity with a bicycle, and much more!”

Heledd Roberts, known to viewers of the soap Rownd a Rownd and presenting a TV series for the first time, added, “The series includes explosions, amazing facts, and mess. We tend to make a lot of mess in the lab. But don’t try anything you see on BOOM! BANG! at home without adult supervision!”

“The competing teams come from the same school, and everyone wants to win. Aled and I are also competitive and try to help the teams as best we can. And the pressure is even greater because the losing team head to the gunge tank at the end of the show,” she said.

Pupils from Ysgol Bontnewydd, near Caernarfon, are the first to step into the BOOM! BANG! lab on Monday, 3 November at 5:25pm.

Teams from Ysgol Glan Morfa (Cardiff), Cwm Banwy, Llanfyllin, Castell-nedd, Bro Preseli, Lon Las, Iolo Morganwg, Bro Morgannwg, Plas Coch, Glan Morfa (Abergele), Y Dderwen, and Llwyncelyn will also compete in the series.
