The Christmas season in Cardiff has well and truly begun, and St David’s has seen a magical transformation with show stopping new Christmas decorations themed around Driving Home for Christmas, with suspended displays of cars packed with presents and Christmas trees.

The new decorations and illuminations feature an incredible 1,490m of Christmas garland, over 2,000 pinecones, a whopping 66,000 LED lights and most impressively of all, one real Mini Cooper located in the central part of the centre that hangs 12m metres in the air.

The bespoke commissioned decorations also include a 26 ft Christmas tree adorned with 40 mini, Mini Coopers, 20 presents and 20 red robins. In total, the Christmas decorations took over six months to lovingly craft by the incredible team at James Glancy Design, the brains behind the iconic Carnaby Street Christmas lights.

Ensuring the brand new concept is unique to St David’s and Cardiff, throughout the centre, signposts direct shoppers to the places they call ‘home’ throughout Wales including Caerphilly, Newport, Merthyr, Swansea and Bargoed and many more!

St David’s Marketing Manager Hywel Butcher commented:

“The team and I are so excited to be unveiling our new Christmas decorations this year to mark the start of the festive season. Our stocking decorations proved a real hit, with thousands of shoppers sharing pictures of the installation over the years and we wanted to kick it up a gear and take the decorations one step further. For so many people in Wales and beyond, Christmas really begins when you jump in the car, presents in tow, and head home to your loved ones. During the install phase this week, we have been wowed every day by the scene coming together, and we know our shoppers will love it! The team at James Glancey Design have done an incredible job at capturing the Christmas magic and we can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks.“

Commenting on the decorations, James Glancy, Director of the Design company said “We were so excited when we got the brief through from the St David’s team. By working together, we have created installations that capture the magic of Christmas on a massive scale, and to be able to re-imagine the space with a fantastic new concept was great, we’ve loved every second!”

On 16 November, Christmas at St David’s will truly begin, with a day packed with festive fun. From Christmas music and treats, to shoppers snapping pics of the new decorations for the shopping centre’s Christmas social media competition.
