Officers in St Mellons have been given extra powers to prevent gatherings and anti-social behaviour following an incident in the shopping district.
Police were called to the Tesco car park at around 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, March 10) to a report of criminal damage and stones being thrown at cars.
This is the latest in a number of reported incidents at the location involving large groups of young people causing criminal damage, acting in an anti-social manner and behaving aggressively towards members of the public and police officers.
Sergeant Louise Tew from South Wales Police said:“We urge parents and guardians to speak to their young people about not getting involved in anti-social behaviour. Please also check who they are associating with, what they are doing and where they are.”
The order, which is granted under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, is in place from 3pm and 10pm today (Wednesday, March 11)
Under Section 35 of the act, police officers can instruct anybody who is causing, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the area as illustrated in the map.

Officers will also have the power to seize any property which they suspect is being used to cause anti-social behaviour.
Sgt Tew added:“The dispersal order is in place as a preventative measure. Officers won’t hesitate to enforce the extra powers afforded to them to keep the community safe.”
