The award-winning Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival is back for 2019

The award-winning Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival: Everyman 2019 returns to Sophia Gardens this summer, with six weeks of theatre for the whole family from the 27th June – 3rd August.

‘Everyman Theatre Cardiff continues its proud tradition of high quality theatre in this, its 78th year. From humble beginnings in the basement of a church to this past year where we performed to thousands in our Festival, on tour and at a variety of venues in Cardiff.

The festival kicks off this year with the classic sitcom ‘Hi-De-Hi’, followed by the Shakespearean favourite, Much Ado About Nothing. As we head into the Summer holidays, the whole family can enjoy ‘The Little Mermaid Jr.’, brought to you by Go Productions, with the festival brought to a close with the rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.

Simon Futty, Chair of Everyman Theatre, Cardiff said:

“For us, the highlight of the year has always been our festival – an open-air extravaganza showcasing the best Shakespearean theatre, musical theatre and light entertainment and performed under the stars in the heart of our city.”

[aoa id=”1″]Alongside the main festival productions are the one-off nights, which include ‘Hello Cabaret’, a night of musical theatre under the stars and Cinema in the Park, with Singalonga showings of ‘Grease’ and ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’. ‘Stand Up in the Park’ returns on the 7th July with the fantastic talents of Clint Edwards, Robin Morgan, Dane Baptiste and Angela Barnes bringing all the laughs in aid of Amnesty International, Cardiff. Everyman Youth Theatre are also presenting ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ on the 28th July. [/aoa]

Peter Harding-Roberts, Festival Chair added:

“Now in its 37th year the festival has grown to eight productions with a total of 50 performances. The festival is now the headline cultural event of the Cardiff summer. It is now far and away the largest open-air theatre festival in Wales. All of the productions are directed by established professionals, drawing into the casts professional actors currently resting, young actors aspiring to enter the profession and the cream of local talent of those who have chosen to follow other careers. What they all share in common (other than their talent) is the desire to perform in large scale high quality productions.”
