Transport for Wales has suggested indoor attractions within reach of train stations in Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardiff for days out in wet weather.
According to the Met Office, it rains on average on 145 days of the year in Wales.
Dylan Nicholas, Media Relations Manager at Transport for Wales, said: “While a rainy day tempts many to stay indoors, Wales is packed with incredible indoor destinations, from national libraries and historic Victorian markets, museums and galleries. Jumping on a train or bus makes exploring easy, taking you right to the heart of the action without the hassle of driving in the rain or searching for parking.”
In Aberystwyth, he highlighted the Aberystwyth Arts Centre and the neighbouring National Library of Wales, which regularly host art exhibitions, events and live performances. Aberystwyth has a central station and is served directly by the T1, T2 and T5 TrawsCymru bus services.
In Swansea, the National Waterfront Museum, which covers more than 300 years of Welsh history and has free entry, is a 10-minute walk from the station. The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, which shows historic and contemporary art, is also a short walk away.
Dylan Nicholas said: “Swansea Plantasia offers 20% off admission when you travel there by train and present a valid same day rail ticket or even a 2 for 1 on Penderyn Swansea Copperworks Distillery tours.”
In Cardiff, the suggestions include Cardiff Market, a Victorian indoor market in the Castle Quarter with independent stalls, and the National Museum, whose Evolution of Wales exhibition covers 4,600 million years of history.
