Vacant property transformed into Caerphilly’s first craft beer bar

The former Plumbsave unit in Lon Y Twyn, Caerphilly has been redeveloped and transformed into brand-new high specification brewhouse and microbrewery.

The newly renovated building will be utilised as a brewery bar, serving fresh craft beer and food, whilst offering its customers an unprecedented 270 degree view over the brewhouse.

The developers behind the project hope that the new venue will become a much-utilised community hub and a respected tourist destination, producing high- quality award winning beer and Caerphilly’s only craft beer bar.

The building at Unit 1, Lon Y Twyn, Caerphilly benefited from a funding boost of £180,909 from the Welsh Government Targeted Regeneration Investment (TRI) programme. The TRI funding programme aims to support regeneration projects that promote economic regeneration – creating jobs, enhancing skills and employability, and creating the right environment for businesses to grow and thrive.

The funding is aimed at bringing vacant commercial properties back in to use and will address the requirement for retail and commercial floor space that meets the needs of businesses, by providing gap funding for vacant commercial building occupiers, and owners to enhance building frontages and bring vacant commercial floor space back into beneficial business use.

Now complete, the brewhouse officially opened to the public on Friday 4th February 2022. During the festive period of 2021, Brew Monster opened as a pop-up event that allowed the public to visit their new development and sample the delights offered, from their award-winning beer to wine and snacks.

Glenn White, Managing Director at Brew Monster, said “We had a busy weekend with the grand opening on Friday and then were fully booked for the rugby Six Nations on Saturday.

“We’ve recently taken on 5 new members of staff who will be working in the new brewery bar and hope to continue growing as Caerphilly’s first and only craft beer bar.”

Councillor Mrs Eluned Stenner, Cabinet Member for Performance, Economy and Enterprise said: “Over the past 4 years, Caerphilly Council has invested significantly into infrastructure to ensure Caerphilly is a Great Place to do Business.

“We continue to strengthen our partnership with Welsh Government – and as part of the Urban Centre Funds we have been able to bring back into use several empty and underutilised town centre buildings across the County Borough.”
