Wine lovers are being urged to support their local vineyards and discover award-winning Welsh wines by joining Welsh Wine Night, a live virtual event which aims to encourage consumers to place orders directly with producers.
A partnership between the Welsh Vineyard Association and the WineGB organisation, Welsh Wine Night will go live on YouTube and Instagram Live (Black Book Winery followed by Wine Time London) at 7pm this Friday (24thApril) and will allow viewers to be guided through a series of acclaimed Welsh wines that can be ordered directly from Welsh vineyards.
In advance of the event, consumers are being encouraged to place orders with local vineyards, who are ready to make deliveries ahead of the first Welsh Wine Night broadcast.
Those joining via Instagram Live can join the experts at Black Book Winery and Wine Time London, who will guide audiences through the variety of award-winning vintages produced by the 30 vineyards operating across the country.
Those taking part are being invited join the conversation by posting question for the experts, or sharing their own Welsh wine reviews on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #WelshWineNight.
Welsh Wine Night will kick off a series of weekly online events exploring each of the UK’s winemaking regions.
Robb Merchant is the owner Abergavenny’s White Castle Vineyard and the chairman of the Welsh Vineyard Association. Speaking ahead of the launch of the first Welsh Wine night, Mr Merchant, said:
“I’m delighted that Wales is kicking off this series of Friday ‘socials’ from around the wine regions of Great Britain. We are very proud of the wines we produce here in Wales, where we have vineyards in the north and the south of the country. This is a growing region, now boasting some 30 vineyards.
“Many are open to the public and are looking forward to welcoming you when restrictions are lifted. However, you can still enjoy our wines as many vineyards sell direct or can point you to where they are available.
“Please tune in this Friday – a number of us will be online too and looking forward to raising a glass with you!”
The call to support Wales’ vineyards is also being supported by the Welsh Drinks Cluster. Anthony Mills, who heads up Wine & Spirits Group as part of The Drinks Development Cluster for Wales, said: “In these incredibly hard times it is really important that we support those who have worked so hard to establish Wales’ wine industry. Their dedication has seen many of our vineyards develop a reputation for producing wines of excellent quality and they must be supported to continue.
“Placing orders with local vineyards and joining the Welsh Wine Night conversation is not only an opportunity to back these outstanding businesses, it’s a chance for Welsh consumers to discover the exceptional wines that are already respected and applauded beyond our borders.”
